The star planned to sip on red wine

Selena Gomez just turned 21.

Although she is now of legal drinking age, there wasn’t a bar crawl or any tequila shots for pop star Selena Gomez’s 21st birthday July 22.

The "Come & Get It" singer planned to celebrate the big birthday in a low-key manner, reported US Magazine. "I will order a glass of wine," she said. "My mom’s a red wine kind of gal."

Gomez is not the type to be seen on the front of a tabloid due to outrageous 21st birthday antics — she still lives with her parents, even though she has said that "I think it's time" to move out and into her own home.

Gomez is still recovering from her breakup from longtime on-again-off-again boyfriend, Justin Bieber, and the difficulty of dating someone in the public eye. "I learned that I should definitely be way more private next time," said Gomez. "It’s hard to just date in this industry... You can’t really help who you date," she said.

With a personal life like that, we think Gomez deserved that glass of red wine.

Selena Gomez's 21st Birthday Plans Revealed!

'I'm going to have a huge party, so I'm excited,' Gomez told MTV News.

Selenators, break out your party hats, because it's Selena Gomez's birthday!

The "Come & Get It" singer celebrates her 21st birthday Monday (July 22), and like many 21-year-olds, she's planning a big celebration to ring in the milestone year.

"I'm going to have a huge party, so I'm excited," Gomez told MTV News back in May of her birthday plans. "I'll have all of my friends. I don't really celebrate my birthday I go out to dinner with my friends."

Gomez continued, "I think my friends are more excited than I am because they are older than me and they are like, 'We can finally take you places!' "

No word yet if on-again-off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber will be in attendance, but he does not have any "Believe" tour dates scheduled on Gomez's birthday. The two were last seen together getting up close and personal at a Fourth of July party held at a Hollywood Hills home.

Yet, the celebration doesn't stop once Gomez's birthday ends, because the following day is the release of her much anticipated new album, Stars Dance.

"I want it to be a mixture of everything I'm obsessed with," Gomez said. "I love to dance and I love to make people dance. It's the best feeling. Doing 'Spring Breakers' was really fun, because Skrillex and Cliff Martinez did the soundtrack, and [Skrillex] kind of inspired me with a baby dubstep, because I have a few songs that have that."

The Food! The Guests! Details of Selena Gomez's 21st Birthday Party

Kate Middleton may have given birth to the royal heir yesterday, but it was a big day for Selena Gomez too! The "Come & Get It" singer celebrated her twenty-first birthday with friends at Bagatelle in West Hollywood.

"Thank you to bagatellela for an amazing bday. " she wrote on Instagram. "It's a birthday WEEK!"

For the big night, Gomez, who just released her new album, "Stars Dance," was joined by 20 friends and family members, including her mother, her "Spring Breakers" co-star Ashley Benson and actress Francia Raisa, for a private dinner at the French bistro. (No, Gomez's on-again, off-again beau Justin Bieber was not in attendance!)

According to a source, the group enjoyed the Caesar salad, tuna tartare, Parisian gnocchi with truffle sauce and the restaurant's signature dish, the whole truffle-roasted chicken. For dessert, they dug into a "Mega Sundae" and of course, birthday cake.

Says the source: "Selena had a great time!"

As was the case throughout the day. Before her big dinner, Gomez enjoyed Jack n the Box tacos and tweeted, "Guess what … I'm 21. UM, #turnupNOW" along with a photo of herself laughing with a group of friends.

"Safe to say, I'm enjoying this very much )" she added. "THANK YOU for all the bday love! I love you guys so much x."

Selena Gomez Reunites with Justin Bieber for 21st Birthday Bash

Nearly a week after turning 21, Selena Gomez celebrated the milestone Saturday night with plenty of friends – and a surprising familiar face.

Gomez – who shares her July 22 birthday with the newborn Prince George of Cambridge – hosted a gypsy-themed bash at Malibu’s Revolve Beach House. On the guest list: Julianne Hough and brother Derek, Nina Dobrev, Ashley Benson, Jaden Smith and celeb stylist Riawna Capri.

“When Selena’s song 𠆋irthday’ came on, all of the guests gathered on the dance floor and took shots of chilled VeeV,” a source tells PEOPLE. The evening, which was filled with dancing, good friends, and plenty of drinks, got an unexpected visitor around midnight when the Spring Breakers actress’s on-again, off-again beau Justin Bieber arrived.

“Justin arrived at the party in his leopard-print Audi R8,” a different source says. “He was casually dressed and carried a single rose.”

When Gomez saw him she “started to cry,” according to the first source. “Justin and Selena went into the house to talk and were inside for a long time before sneaking out together.”

But aside from Bieber’s unexpected appearance, the ladies were dressed to party and showed off their midriffs – after arriving at the over-the-top celebration via party bus.

Selena Gomez celebrates 21st birthday with gypsy-themed party

Selena Gomez celebrated turning 21 on Saturday with a gypsy-themed party which was attended by an array of celebrity friends including ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.

Guests such as Dancing with the Stars dancer Julianne Hough and actresses Ashley Benson and Nina Nobrev danced the night away at the birthday bash.

Justin made a surprise appearance at the party, prompting rumours of a reconciliation with the former Disney star.

The Never Say Never singer arrived at The Revolve Beach House in Malibu in his leopard print Audi sports car with several friends, and was later spotted with fellow pop star Jaden Smith, who was already at the party.

It is reported that Justin then left his sports car at the beach house and jumped into a car with the birthday girl around 2am.

Although the on/off couple have been spotted together in recent weeks, it was rumoured that Justin's invitation was not sent, following reports that he had made no effort to give Selena a present to celebrate the big milestone.

Regardless of her ex-boyfriend's generosity, earlier in the day Selena thanked fans who had given her the best birthday present by helping her record reach the top of the charts.

"I just want to say thank you all for an amazing birthday week. The success of this album has been the greatest gift!" tweeted the Come And Get It singer.

Earlier in the week, Selena appeared on Good Morning America and opened up about her turbulent relationship with Justin.

"He and I have such a history together and I'll always care about him and protect him if anybody tries to be mean," she said.

Selena and Justin broke up in November 2012 after two years together. The teen stars met in 2010 and confirmed their relationship in February 2011.

21 Ways Selena Gomez Should Celebrate Her 21st Birthday!

From stealing our hearts back in the Disney days to now making us dance to her infectious pop music, Selena Gomez has, without fail, been a continuously inspiring and gracious celebrity.

This multi-talented starlet is not only known for her acting chops and singing skills, she’s also recognized for her charitable work with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation and UNICEF, among other non-profit organizations.

This Monday, Sel turns 21 and we think this is the perfect time for her to kick back, relax, and forget about all the pressure of being today’s number one pop sensation. Here are 21 ways we think Selena should celebrate her 21st birthday!

21. Have a star-studded pool party with her BFFs!

Between Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, and Ashley Benson, Selena’s circle of friends shines bright with star power. What better way to bring in such a special birthday than having a pool party with the people she holds closest to her heart. With a BBQ on hand and a couple of (legal) cold ones, we think Sel would have a blast splashing around with such good company.

20. Spa Day with Mom

Sure, hitting up the bars with pals is the typical way to celebrate a 21st birthday, but Selena has admitted that she and her mom are super close. Heading to a luxurious spa for some massages and mani-pedis with mom could be an ideal plan for her special day. Between recording songs in the studio and dodging crazy paparazzi, getting some R&R in a quiet place might be the perfect way for Selena to bring in her 21st.

19. Spend Some Quality Time with Her New Baby Sis

This talented pop star has said that being a big sister to one-month-old Gracie Eliot is “the best thing ever” (Hollywood Life.) Since she is always gushing over her tiny new sibling, we think spending some quality time with Gracie would be a real treat from her hectic schedule. Selena’s known for keeping a low profile (as low as she can, at least!), so maybe taking it easy today would be her ideal 21st celebration.

18. Take a Selfie with her First Alcoholic Beverage!

Whenever Selena is using Instagram, she is no stranger selfies, and everyone knows it’s an absolute MUST to Instagram a pic of your first legal drink. We think Sel should trade in her swirly straw for a flute of champagne!

17. Adopt Another Puppy As a Birthday Gift to Herself!

Selena is a huge advocate for adopting rescue dogs…after all, she’s adopted six of her own! Since she’s such an animal lover and clearly doesn’t mind having tons of furry friends, we think she’d love heading to the local shelter and giving a new pup a loving home. Plus, we think Baylor would enjoy a new buddy to play with

16. Go on a Fancy Dinner Date with a Recently Inked Pop Star

Though Selena’s relationship status is always a big question mark, we think she’d enjoy going on a dinner date with another teen idol (perhaps one who just recently tattooed his mother’s eye on his forearm!) Taking a romantic evening out with someone special would be an exciting and flirty way to bring in her big day.

15. Try a Pickle Martini…

Our favorite pop queen LOVES pickles (she has said she wants to invent pickle gum), so why not mix her 21st festivities with her favorite food? We found this recipe for a pickle cocktail, and while it sounds awful to us, we think she might enjoy this trendy, savory beverage.

14. …But a Lemon Drop Martini Might be a Better Option!

Even though Sel loves pickles, that pickle martini we mentioned above might be a little too weird for this young starlet. Since she has also revealed her undying love for lemons sprinkled with salt, we think a sweet and sour Lemon Drop martini would be her best bet! Ask for salt on the rim instead of sugar, and she’s got the best drink she’ll ever have!

13. Dance the Night Away at a Club

If you’ve seen Selena’s Instagram lately, you know she’s been dancing her booty off in preparation for her upcoming tour. Since she’s been perfecting her moves so much, we know she’d be a hit at L.A.’s hottest clubs. She should totally groove on over to Lure or Greystone Manor for a fun filled, booty shaking evening!

12. Throw a Charity Ball

Selsel loves giving back, and as the Ambassador of both UNICEF and the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, among many other charity organizations, we wouldn’t put it past her to throw a huge birthday bash that benefits one of her many charitable endeavors. A private party where guests are asked to make donations instead of giving gifts seems like it would be right up this gracious celeb’s alley.

11. Buy a Hot New Bikini For a Birthday Beach Day

If you couldn’t already tell from her role in Spring Breakers, Selena loves two-piece bikinis. We think she should splurge on a cute new suit and spend the day in the sand at the beach. This would be the perfect break from her super busy schedule and give her a relaxing day in the sun.

10. Try a New Hairstyle

From bangs and bobs, to long flowing curls, over the years the “Come & Get It” singer has tried out almost every hairstyle. Turning 21 is a monumental time in anyone’s life and is the perfect opportunity to try out a fresh new ‘do! Sel should head on over to her favorite salon and give her long locks an update. We think trying out the ‘lob’ (the long bob) would look so good on her!

9. Go to the Shooting Range

Nothing says adulthood quite like going to she shooting range….right? Maybe not… but we do know that Selena has enjoyed firing a few bullets at shooting ranges to relieve some steam. Gathering a group of fun friends for a day of gun safety seems like a strange way to celebrate being 21, but we think Sel might enjoy the unique festivities! She posted this photo on her Facebook page about a year ago and said it relieved some stress to fire a gun!

8. Splurge at the Mall

Selena knows how to always look great, whether she’s walking the red carpet or just hanging out friends. We love the pictures of her outfits that she posts on her Instagram and Facebook page and think her 21st birthday is the perfect time for her to add a few more cute outfits to her already fabulous wardrobe. She should hit up the mall and spend her day doing some retail therapy.

7. Indulge in a Totally Bad For You But Oh So Yummy Treat

In countless interviews, Selena has revealed that she, like every other young person, loves sweets. Whether it’s Snickers bars, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, or McDonald’s, she loves it all. However, in order to keep her energy up, she sticks to a strict diet of fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. It’s her birthday though, so she should definitely indulge in a high-calorie sweet treat! Cronut, anyone?

6. Kick Start Her Day with Cardio

The Spring Breakers star should start her day with a burst of energy by attending a fun work out class. Nothing boosts positive energy and endorphins quite like a good work out, so taking a morning Zumba class or doing some Bikram yoga would put Selena in the best mood making her 21st as fun as possible!

5. Have a Celebrity Slumber Party!

Sure, having a slumber party sounds juvenile, but we all know it’s so much fun to stay up late chatting with your BFFs while snacking on chips and popcorn. We think it’d be totally fun to invite all of Sel’s best friends over for a “grown-up” sleep over! With a cocktail recipe book on hand and yummy finger foods like sushi to eat, nothing could go wrong!

4. Buy Herself a Big Bouquet of Flowers

We all know Selena is one busy girl, so on her birthday she should treat herself to a big bouquet of flowers. Not only would these look pretty while she’s recording in the studio, but they would also instantly make her feel happy and loved. Nothing says “You’re Appreciated” quite like some tulips and daisies, even if you bought them for yourself!

3. Watch the Wizard of Oz

The multi-talented actress and singer has said that she adores the movie The Wizard of Oz. Kicking back on the couch and watching this fantastic flick would be a super chill way to celebrate being 21.

2. Buy Herself a New Car!

In line with keeping a low profile, Selena drives a surprisingly normal car for such a mega star (quite unlike her on-off flame, Justin Bieber!) Since Selena is now entering into adulthood, we think she should reward all her hard work by splurging on a new car! This pop star has millions of dollars to her name, so she could totally get away with buying herself a fancy new ride.

1. Surround Herself with Friends and Family

Between the paparazzi bugging her about her personal life and performing concerts for her fans, Selena is always on a hectic schedule. The ultimate way for her to celebrate her 21st birthday would be to just surround herself with everyone she loves. With friends and family by her side, Selena would have the best birthday ever, regardless of what she does. So, Sel, hit up all of your closest pals and do whatever makes you happy this Monday! And don’t be afraid to steal some celebration ideas from our list.

8. “If I had let all of the negative stuff affect me, I don’t think I would be satisfied with the person I am now. That’s what I tell my fans: If you’re miserable with everything going on in school, that is so not going to matter the moment you leave." [via Glamour]
